Delia’s Gone is currently one of my very favourite songs, and one which I first heard sung by Johnny Cash in the version he recorded for his American Recordings series of albums.

What I didn’t know, until I bought a copy of the Penguin Alan Lomax-edited volume of American Folk Songs, was that it exists in a traditional form too; I assumed - largely thanks to the credits on Cash’s own record - that it was his own. Regardless - I’ve stuck with Cash’s more menacing lyrics.

I recorded this on my Oscar Schmidt autoharp in the hall at Loveday St Welsh Congregational Chapel, which has wonderful warm reverb.
