In the car on the way to the chocolate teapot factory this morning, I carried on listening to CD86. I only pressed repeat once after Primal Scream’s Velocity Girl and twice after Anorak City  by Another Sunny Day, which is probably something of a record. Whilst at the teapot factory I’ve been listening to:

  • Nuggets Vol. I – marvellous garage rock compilation that I’ve been meaning to get my sweaty hands on for years. This is a hooky copy but I have ordered the gatefold vinyl (yes, officer).
  • Grief No Absolution – Eurostopodus Argus/Crypsis
  • The Cure – Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me - “Hey You!” is dreadful, isn’t it? I know this LP is bloated, but I think most of it’s excellent. There’s some great jagged  rhythm guitar, and Fat Bob is on particularly good vocal form. But spare us the sodding saxophone solos. Is it a bit daft to be getting cross with a record that’s 23 years old? Probably.
  • Arvo Pärt – Alina (ECM) – an album with three versions of Spiegel im Spiegel and two of Für Alina in a handy minimal sandwich
  • Chopin Études (Murray Perahia on Sony)
