  • Lemonheads – It’s a Shame About Ray
  • The Manhattan Love Suicides – Burnt Out Landscapes – in commemoration of the group’s split. “Clusterfuck” is, without doubt, one of the greatest indie-pop singles of recent years. They’ll be sadly missed, by me at least.
  • Elliott Carter – String Quartet no. 3 (Pacifica Quartet on Naxos) – baffling but wonderful
  • György Kurtág – Kafka Fragments – a wondrous 50-minute excursion into Kafka with just voice and violin
  • Syd Barrett – Barrett again
  • Morton Feldman – For Samuel Beckett
